Hasiao Kang sells watches in the streets of Taipei. A few days after his father's death, he meets a young woman, Shiang-Chyi, who leaves for Paris the very next day. Troubled by the behavior of his mother Hsiao takes refuge in the memory of his brief encounter. In an effort to bridge the miles, he sets all the watches and clocks in Taipei time to Paris time. The surprising ending finally connects the two main characters in a poetic, unexpected way.
